The digital age is causing teachers to rethink their curriculum in order to stay current with today’s changing times.  One important thing that teachers need to stress to their students is the importance of what they say, how they say it, and to always consider their audience.  Students need to realize that anyone can access their thoughts and writings.  It is also important to stress internet safety and to remind the students that the world is filled with people who want to harm them.

Literacy not happens in books, but on computers also.  Students are increasing their computer use and decreasing their time spent reading a book.  As a teacher, I am always searching for new ways to bring literacy activities into the classroom via the internet.  I am spending more time developing PowerPoints and Smart Board projects for daily lesson plans.  I believe that if students are interested in this, I need to adapt to their wants, interests, and needs.  It is important that teachers remain flexible and open to all new technology and things that will further enhance their teaching.  It is also important that we remain current with our technology to allow the students to explore the world outside the four walls of our classroom.

Weblogs could be a useful educational tool for teachers and students.  It will lessen the paperwork, but it will increase the time we spend in front of computer monitors.  On the other hand, students could use these to learn how to publish their thoughts and ideas in order to share with others.  Weblogs could also be a way for parents to check up on their children and to see how they are progressing.

Welcome All!
